D-Day, June 6, 1944

Today is June 6, 2008. It was 64 years ago on this date that the Allied nations sacrificed so much in order to begin the end of the war in Europe. Below are a few things I have collected from around the web for you to share today. I have also provided links to other sites for you to visit.

Circular written by General Dwight D. Eisenhower explaining the importance of the Normandy invasion on winning the war. These were distributed to every member of the attacking force the night prior to the D-Day landings. Sergeant J. Robert "Bob" Slaughter, a Guard member of Virginia's Company D, 116th Infantry, passed his copy around among the members of Company D to get their signatures (front and back) as they waited to load aboard the landing craft that would take them to Omaha Beach. By nightfall of June 6, about half of these men were dead or wounded. Courtesy John R. Slaughter

The above posters are courtesy of the US Army. These and 2 more posters can be viewed at the their poster gallery. You may also go to their D-Day site for much more good information.
Other sites worth looking at are:

To the many who paid the ultimate price for all of us to live in freedom, I am forever thankful and grateful. Because of them we live in the greatest country on earth. And to those who are currently defending our freedom on foreign shores, THANK YOU so much for your sacrifices. Our prayers are with you and your families.

And Now, For Something Completely Different!

Thanks HEMA for a great time.

HEMA is a department store group in Europe with stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. Now I have never been to the stores but I have visited their website. The best I can tell they only carry products that are their own brand and have been developed by them. I can tell by looking at the website that they offer quality merchandise and truly place the customer first.

How do I know this?

Simple! Read this statement from their website:
a real HEMA product
All products are developed at Headquarters. Safety always comes first at HEMA, which is why all products are tested in HEMA’s test laboratory. Nothing goes on sale before it meets strict HEMA requirements. Likewise, much attention is paid to the quality of the products. If a product fails to please the customer, the motto ‘Not satisfied - money back’ applies. The customer is refunded. That is the real HEMA.

HEMA also likes to have a good time.

How do I know this?

Witness this Flash Demo page featuring products from their store. It is great fun to watch; and remember to turn up the sound on your computer to get the full effect. HEMA producten page.

I hope you enjoy this light diversion on this wonderful weekend. PS. Look at the name of the boom box on the first line of products.
