Picture Monday, March 3, 2008

Here are a few pictures from the Robinson Elementary Country Fair 2008.

Jace and his tag for stickers. The more stickers, the better the prizes at the end of the day.

A birds eye view of Jace in the gym.

Jace goes over the top and has a great time. He got several prizes at the end. he was very good at throwing the balls and hitting the target. One lady said he would make a great baseball player.

Sorry for the late post! A strong storm moved through this morning around 5:00 AM and we lost power here at the house. But here's the post good and late. Actually that should be late but good.

Garden Time

I spent some time in the garden this afternoon. There is a cold fron headed this way and it has been gusty all day. The weather man says that there are heavy thunderstorms headed this way later this evening. He also said that the low Monday night may dip as low as 29 degrees. Great, that means I may have to cover things again.
I was able to separate and repot most of my chrysanthemums. I was able to get more snapdragons in, along with some lavender. I got out and picked up some more limestone for stepping stones and have placed them. I will need to come in later and dig some dirt out so that I make the stones a little more flush with the ground. I may bring in Irish Moss later to grow between the stepping stones. We shall see.
Many of the tulips are blooming now. The daffodils are also coming along nicely.
I have some pictures posted below. Enjoy them!

WOW! What A Day!

What a crazy day.
It started out great. We were going to Ryan's Buffet for breakfast. While I was waiting for Julie and Chris I was playing on the computer. While there I noticed that my Sandisk U3 Cruzer had an update available. So why not update it while waiting? I start the update and all goes well. The process goes smoothly and is almost complete when the girls come in and tell me they are ready.
Fine! I'll leave the Cruzer and get back to it later.
MAJOR MISTAKE!!!
When I got back I tried to work with it. Nothing! Then I notice there was a time out error. Everything on the drive was gone. As in non-existent! OH NO!! All of my school files. lesson plans, progress reports, letters to parents. The whole ball of wax was zapped into nothingness.
After picking my jaw up off the floor I start scrambling to find files. I tried several USB Drive file recovery programs; but no luck. I don't even remember the programs I used.
I finally went outside to work in the garden in order to relax. Then Chris and I took Jace to his school carnival. Fun was had by one and all!
I finally went back to the computer and located an old backup on the drive I replaced last week. I suppose it was fortuitous that I was able to get files off the old drive last week since I needed them today. Much of today has been spent recreating the progress report database and spreadsheets. LOTS OF FUN!
Now a break and finally blogging

Leap Day 2008

So today is Leap Day. We get an extra day this year to do all the fun stuff we like to do. Like listen to political ads?? Why is it that Leap Year is always during an election. That means we have to put up with all this nonsense an extra day. And it certainly didn't help this year, what with all the campaigns and such getting an unreal start on the process.
Seriously, Leap Year has it's good side and it's bad side. Just think. If you are born on Leap Day do you only get to celebrate every four years. Boy that stinks. Imagine, you be like 60 years old by the time you were 15 and could learn to drive. Even going to school' you would be like 25 years old before you were 5 and able to go to kindergarten. (I suppose I shouldn't say much. I'm 52 and am still in kindergarten. And, I just got promoted this year. I had been in Pre-Kindergten.) If you get married on Leap Day does that mean you celebrate your anniversary every four years? I'm not sure if that would make it easier to remember or easier to forget, what with being every four years and all.
At any rate, Have A Great Leap Day! Ribbet, Ribbet!!!!

The Road Trip Begins...Again

I bought the Season One, Part One box set of Route 66 last night. I'm looking forward to watching it soon. I couldn't watch it last night because we were watching American Idol. I think our vote for the girls goes to Brooke White. She sang a great rendention of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."

Oh, back to Route 66. I was looking at the packaging materials, and the episode list, and stuff like that. I noticed something about the episodes. Disc 2 has Episode 5 that aired on November 4, 1960. Then Disc 3 has Episode 9 that supposedly aired on November 2, 1960. A small amount of research yielded the following information:

IMDB shows that episode 9 aired on November 2, 1960.

Epiguides.com indicates that the same episode aired on December 2, 1960.

Who's right? I don't know! I tend to believe that IMDB got their information from the mis-typed DVD notes. The epiguides.com information certainly follows a more logical timeline. After all, why would the network air one episode two days after another one? You decide.

Hard drive update-I think I may have mentioned some time back that one of my hard drives had bitten the dust and there were a ton of important financial and jpeg files on it. I worked on it this weekend and was finally able to coax every file off of it with the exception of one pdf document. I was excited. By the way-That is the hard drive that I played with later and was hitting with a screwdriver. (Refer back to my Blog Tag post.)
