Meet The Cats

After posting about Angel Cat I was thinking about the other neglected cats at our house.

HMMMM!!! I thought to myself, "Have I ever posted pictures of all the cats at one time on the blog?"

I then answered myself (Which is very Bad!), "I don't think so!"

So, here we go.

Tabby, also known as "The cat with glowing eyes."

Rory, a cat with attitude. And it's not real good. Just ask the others.

Puss. He's my baby. He's laid back like me. Can't ya tell?

Callie. Another cat with attitude. You can see it in her eyes.

Bristow. Handy to have around in case you need something to sit on top of the router.

Boo. He was working on his Mesmerizing routine when I took this picture.

Peanut. There is no picture of Peanut. She would not cooperate. She's that way.

Cat On A Warm Asphalt Composition Shingle Roof

I got home from work today and saw something different on the roof. It was Angel Cat. Fortunately for her it was not a roof of the "Hot Tin" type.

How she got on the roof I'm not sure. I left her there because I figured she could get down in her own time. I also left her because I couldn't reach her. Good reason huh?

I was going through a couple of picture boxes yesterday and found some old vacation pictures. I could tell they were old because they are so grainy. I could also tell they are old because they say "1961" on them.

In the summer of 1961 we took a vacation to California. While there we went to Disney Land, Yosemite National Park, and San Francisco among other places. I seem to remember Knott's Berry Farm but I never found any pictures to prove it.

I suppose the picture above is a general crowd shot at Disney Land. This area reminds me of one of the boat rides. I was five years old at the time and I remember wanting to ride this boat but we had to wait. While waiting, I was climbing around and generally being mischievous. Yes, I was a touch on the mischievous side in my younger years. While climbing and cavorting I accidentally kicked my dad in the head. You see I was climbing on the netting and hand rails and my dad was sitting. Let's say that my dad was less than pleased with my behavior and he certainly wasted no time in letting this displeasure be felt.

I also really wanted to ride the Dumbo ride. We didn't have tickets for that and to this day I haven't ridden the Dumbo ride.

No, I'm sure I didn't kick my dad in the head because I couldn't ride the Dumbo ride.

This is a picture of my brother and who knows what he is standing with. My brother is the one on the left without a hat.

Ahhh! This is me, the skinny fellow next to one of the Three Pigs. I remember this pig vividly. I was sure that he was wearing a costume and was determined to prove it. I tugged on his snout and his ears. That is certainly why he has his arm to the side; holding me at bay while trying to be civil since my parents were snapping a picture of the whole scene.

My brother and I on top of a boulder or rock, or other mineral outcropping in Yosemite National Park. Fortunately my brother didn't push me over the edge.

I'm not sure who this is, but I think it is near one of the falls at Yosemite. That might be me in the shorts and possibly my sister to the right. Who knows?

This is my mom in front of a house in San Francisco. Why?? I don't really know. This is the sort of thing people do on vacation. Take a few pictures of family members in front of places that you will soon forget what it is or where it is. Especially some forty some odd years later. Maybe this was simply a snapshot that was taken to set up an alibi. NAHHHH! My mom wasn't that kind of person.

Beautiful

It's amazing the difference a couple of days makes. A hurricane came through and on it's heels a welcome cool front settled into Central Texas. All this in the middle of September.

Hurricane Ike blew through on Saturday and pretty much was out of the way on Sunday and helped to pull the cool front down our way. For the past several weeks the temps were in the 90's for highs. Especially prior to the hurricane.

Sometimes it felt like we were in Arizona.

Yesterday the high was in the 80's. That's downright cool according to our standards; especially with that nice dry northeren breeze. The low last night was in the 50's.

Brrrrr! Chilly weather, but it's nice on the AC bill.

I had been taking pictures with my cell phone at the previous two Baylor games. The picture stunk. This past Friday I took the old camera with me to the Baylor football game. I snapped several pictures. Here are a few that I like from the night.
This is the scoreboard. DUH!!
The field some time before kickoff. Also sometime before many fans came. Kick-off was at 7:30 PM. This was about 6:15 PM.
It was Friday night. This is a light. I suppose you could say this is one of the Friday night lights.
This is the bottom of the light standard looking down from the top of the stadium.
Baylor punting on 4th down. I caught the ball prior to the punt.
Scoreboard at the end of the game. Baylor defeated Washington State, 45-17.

I have sad news to report today. Sunday afternoon the small kitten which Jess found in our driveway, and which Julie had undertaken the task of nurturing passed away yesterday. Julie had reported late yesterday morning that she had noticed that the kitten was having labored breathing and did not appear to be interested in the formula. It was a very sad time around the house when the little one died and it hit Julie very hard because she had devoted the the most part of the last four days to its care. I know that it is no consolation to Julie now, but I was very proud of her for the love and care that she gave the kitten. I know that even though the kitten died, its death was much easier than if it had been left to the heat and other dangers.

In honor of this little one, I have posted a few pictures of some of our other beloved pets that we have "lost".

The two pictures above were of Snowy. He was our Maine Coon Cat that Julie got when she was in the first grade. He died 3 years ago.

The two pictures above are of the three ducks that we got several years ago at Easter time. The two darker ducks died after several months. The yellow duckling was Ferdy. She grew up to become a beautiful white duck. Ferdy lived for more than a year but died shortly after we moved to Waco.

This picture was Molly, my Black Lab. We got her as a pup in Dickinson. She saw many moves and was a trooper. She passed away after 14 years.

Chris was going through the closet the other day. She came across a couple of picture albums for me to see. One of them belonged to my grandparents from Germany. I have posted a few pictures from this album here today.

The first picture is the cover of the album. I included this so that you could get a feel for this album which is probably close to 80 years old as are most of the pictures inside. Cool huh?

Now I don't know who most of the people in the pictures are except occasionally I can pick out my grandfather and grandmother. For this reason I will simply show the pictures and keep the comments to a minimum.

My grandfather, Alfred Horst is the good looking chap with the tie on above.
