I have sad news to report today. Sunday afternoon the small kitten which Jess found in our driveway, and which Julie had undertaken the task of nurturing passed away yesterday. Julie had reported late yesterday morning that she had noticed that the kitten was having labored breathing and did not appear to be interested in the formula. It was a very sad time around the house when the little one died and it hit Julie very hard because she had devoted the the most part of the last four days to its care. I know that it is no consolation to Julie now, but I was very proud of her for the love and care that she gave the kitten. I know that even though the kitten died, its death was much easier than if it had been left to the heat and other dangers.

In honor of this little one, I have posted a few pictures of some of our other beloved pets that we have "lost".

The two pictures above were of Snowy. He was our Maine Coon Cat that Julie got when she was in the first grade. He died 3 years ago.

The two pictures above are of the three ducks that we got several years ago at Easter time. The two darker ducks died after several months. The yellow duckling was Ferdy. She grew up to become a beautiful white duck. Ferdy lived for more than a year but died shortly after we moved to Waco.

This picture was Molly, my Black Lab. We got her as a pup in Dickinson. She saw many moves and was a trooper. She passed away after 14 years.

Going through the pictures I found a few that brought back memories. At least for me they did. I share them with you and hope you enjoy them also.

This picture was taken in 2005. This is Molly our Black Lab that passed away and Mr. Puss. They are enjoying a rest together. At this time Molly was having trouble with her eyesight. Whenever I took her outside I had to carry her down the steps and then carry her back up later.

Peanut taking a snooze on the router. I know she liked it but I can't imagine using this for a pillow. She also likes to sleep on the cable box. I have had to move it in order to discourage her from sleeping on it. I know she probably likes the warmth; but gee, she sure makes it hard to use the remote.

Puddin' enjoys the warmth of the sun streaming in through the window. She also likes to curl up in the linen closet among the towels.

No, I don't have a bear! This is one of the Baylor Bear mascots. This was taken at the 2007 Homecoming Parade.

This is Puppy. She really isn't a puppy. She is around 4 years old but I've called her Puppy all along and you know what they say, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks!" Her real name is Tiger Lily. The name came from Peter Pan.

This doesn't happen often. All six cats on the bed at once. I guess their union calls for a uniform rest and relaxation break.

Meet Some of My Old Friends

I am trying a new image hosting service so this particular blog is intended to test this service. That being said, I was wading through some pictures last night. I came across some old friends that I dearly miss. The pictures were taken in 2003 and 2004. I hope you enjoy them. i know they brought back many pleasant memories for me.

These are the Easter ducks we got in 2003 when we lived in De Leon. We went to the Tractor Supply in Stephenville and picked them out. Then we went to Wal-Mart and bought a pool for them. The yellow duckling was Ferdy, the brown duckling was Ducky. I can't remember the black ducklings name.

This is Molly, the Black Lab. She loved the water, anywhere and anytime she was in it. As you can see she chased the ducks out so she could be in. That is Ferdy and Ducky in the corner. As Ferdy grew up her yellow down gave way to beautiful white feathers.

Molly and Ferdy came to be great friends. Molly would follow Ferdy around the yard. Ferdy was always vocal whenever Molly got in the way.

In the late winter or early spring of 2004 it snowed. By this time Ferdy was the only duck left. I remember that I had to go out and break the ice in Ferdy's pool so she could get in and sit in the water awhile. She was quite hard to keep up with whenever it snowed. She tended to blend in and hide with ease.

It seemed that creatures from the back pasture dispatched the other ducks. Ferdy was a die hard though, she weathered many scrapes. Unfortunately, Molly was up in years and both passed away within a year and a half of moving back to Waco.

I miss them both and still ponder the possibility of getting a new Black Lab and more ducks in the future. But that will have to wait until we get a fence. After all, we don't want a repeat of what happened to the others.

Busy Day, Late Blog

The title says it all.

Got up early today and had a full slate scheduled. Chris and I went to Lowes and Greenlife Nursery. We were looking for shrubs to plant around the house. I found a good deal on bulbs at Lowe's. I suppose it's a little late for them but I think they will be okay. I was able to get tulip, hyacinth, and narcissus bulbs for around 15 to 25 cents each. I also purchased a large amount of dirt for the garden.

We also went to various places looking for a new mailbox. We found one and Chris started to replace the old one when we got home. I finished the job for her and she was happy. She likes the way it looks. We also bought a vinyl cover for it that has a Black Lab on it. I think she would like to have a Black Lab pup again. We lost Molly, our Black Lab, about 2 years ago.

I also got in the garden and started to clean it out. I was able to bring the old horse trough up and place it in it's new spot. Once in it;s place I began to fill it with dirt and get it ready for new plants. I may place some of the new bulbs in it and then come in with snapdragons. That is the plan for now. It will probably change tomorrow. I also cleaned out the chrysanthemums and they look much better now. I still need to get some more flagstone for the pathway.

I almost forgot; we went to the Cedar Chest to look around. Chris found a basket and I found an old Golden Book. I've got a scan of the Golden Book below.

The book carries a 1947 copyright and appears to be in great shape.
