Beautiful Sunday

Today was simply beautiful. The temperature was just right. Just enough of a breeze to make it comfortable but not too windy. I was able to get out in the garden and do some work this afternoon. I planted the bulbs I bought yesterday at Lowe's. I am not sure why they had them on clearance. I bought a yellow tulip, a red tulip, a purple hyacinth, a pink hyacinth, and 2 yellow narcissus for 25 cents each. I also bought 3 flats of tulip bulbs for $1.00 per flat. The flats had fron 12 to 15 bulbs each. That's about 6-8 cents each. Pretty good deal. These were orange, pink, and purple tulips.

While I was preparing the garden this afternoon I discovered a huge chunk of old concrete that I had to dig out. This left a pretty good size hole in the garden that had to be filled. Fortunately I had some dirt lefte over from yesterday to help fill in.

Yeah, it's still a little rough. But remember, a garden is always a work in progress. Pictures will post as the flowers bloom.

Busy Day, Late Blog

The title says it all.

Got up early today and had a full slate scheduled. Chris and I went to Lowes and Greenlife Nursery. We were looking for shrubs to plant around the house. I found a good deal on bulbs at Lowe's. I suppose it's a little late for them but I think they will be okay. I was able to get tulip, hyacinth, and narcissus bulbs for around 15 to 25 cents each. I also purchased a large amount of dirt for the garden.

We also went to various places looking for a new mailbox. We found one and Chris started to replace the old one when we got home. I finished the job for her and she was happy. She likes the way it looks. We also bought a vinyl cover for it that has a Black Lab on it. I think she would like to have a Black Lab pup again. We lost Molly, our Black Lab, about 2 years ago.

I also got in the garden and started to clean it out. I was able to bring the old horse trough up and place it in it's new spot. Once in it;s place I began to fill it with dirt and get it ready for new plants. I may place some of the new bulbs in it and then come in with snapdragons. That is the plan for now. It will probably change tomorrow. I also cleaned out the chrysanthemums and they look much better now. I still need to get some more flagstone for the pathway.

I almost forgot; we went to the Cedar Chest to look around. Chris found a basket and I found an old Golden Book. I've got a scan of the Golden Book below.

The book carries a 1947 copyright and appears to be in great shape.

Six Down and Lookin' For Seven

Yesterday was the big day. Jace had his b-day. Number six and lookin' for more. Jace had a pretty busy day at school since it was his birthday. You know the drill; hat, songs, special chair, and all that sort of stuff. Then last night he came over for cake and presents. Jace was impatient about his presents. He wanted to open them but had to wait since his Dad left something at the house. Scott got what he needed and got back and then Jace was able to tear in to the presents. I think the presents were more important than the cake. He liked it all though. Jess got him a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cake. Jace blew out the candles in one try and then it was time to eat cake. I don't know why it was done in this order, but after cake we went to Chuck E. Cheese for pizza and games. That was fun too.

Nothing Special, But He Thinks He Is

So Mr. Puss thinks he's pretty special. I get up each morning and he shows up at my side in the bed. Is he there to see me? Nah! He knows that my spot on the bed is warm. As soon as I am up out of the bed he is claiming his spot. Of course it was my spot but I had to relinquish it. Next thing you know he's buried under the covers.

Mr. Puss has a way with words. I come home in the afternoons and when he sees me walk in he kinda squeaks. That's his signal for me to come see him and to heartily rub him on the back. He likes to be stroked on the back. When he is feeling "special sporty" he'll roll over and let me rub him on his stomach. You know he's had enough when he bites your hand.

Rory is the same except she is different. Instead of rushing to get the warm spot in the bed she rushes to curl up in the sink. She doesn't like to leave the sink. In fact she is very adamant about staying in the sink. Even if you turn the water on. Have you ever tried to get a hair ball out the drain pipe? Well that's easier to do than get Rory out of the sink. She goes limp and then the faucet gets in the way. Then she gets cranky. Maybe I'll just grow a beard.

Then there's Puppy. I took her out last night so that she could attend to personal needs. What do we do. We spend 15 minutes checking out the place that the rabbits run through the fence. I don't know what it is with those rabbits, but Puppy is intrigued by them.

Speaking of rabbits; yeah I did happen to make it from cats to rabbits. The last time I had my vegetable garden I had several visitors. I am certain they were the refugees from Mr. MacGregor's garden. I am planning another vegetable garden this year. I suppose I better start planning for the bunnies. I wonder if they like peppers?

Good Mail? Bad Male?

Got home from work yesterday and checked the mail. I got a letter from my publisher. They are interested in the children's stories that I submitted to them. They are reviewing them and are considering a contract. I am told that if they publish the stories they will pay $25,000 for a signing bonus and then will pay royalties based on sales after that. The stories are about a little boy, his dog, and the adventures they have. The letter also said something about maybe going on a book signing tour and maybe even a few morning TV shows.

Gee! It all sounds too good to be true.

It is too good to be true! I made it all up. I don't have a publisher and I haven't written any books. Besides, I think the whole boy and his dog and their adventures thing has been done before. I think maybe it was Lassie.

Oh well, it's nice to dream.

I did get coupons in the mail from Shipley's Donuts though! Free donuts. Can't beat that. I won't be using them. I don't eat donuts. Too much sugar you know. There was a Wal-Mart ad, a couple of magazines, and the usual lot of waste basket filler.

Oh by the way, one day I might just write a story and I might just get a letter from my publisher and I might just get a big check and I might just go on the morning TV shows. Well, I might!!

Super Tuesday, Super Dreams

Today is Super Tuesday.

Go vote if your state is participating.

The Texas Primary is on March 4 so I won't be voting yet. The Texas Primary comes at a very omportant time. As it happens it comes the week of TAKS testing. Since many schools serve as polling places also the state has had to reschedule the TAKS tests originally planned for Tuesday, March 4.

I was thinking about the City of Waco last night. The city is really wanting to develop the downtown area. They have several projects in the works. I have an idea. How about developing some of the vacant space in the ALICO building for a nicer restaurant. Imagine if you could place a restaurant on one of the top floors of the building. Think of the view. I was reading not long ago that the radio station WACO-AM broadcast from the building in the middle part of the 1900's. They even had the transmitter on top of the building. Imagine again if there was a station (radio or TV) that had studios there now and broadcast from there once again. I suppose I am just reniniscing of sorts and want to go back to a simpler time. Wouldn't that be nice?
