Picture Monday, December 29, 2008

While researching some pictures taken earlier this year I came across a few that I wanted to share on this final Picture Monday of 2008. The first picture is a picture I took of the Texas flag one afternoon this summer. I took this picture around 6:00 PM on this particular afternoon. I was facing east and there was a stiff breeze blowing out of the north. I wanted to get the flag with the sun setting behind it so that the flag would appear to glow when the sun shone through it. The only problem with this was the flag would appear backwards with the star on the right-hand side. Afterwards I came home and reversed the image and then enhanced the background glow to get a better effect. I liked the result.

The picture below was taken before the Texas A&M vs. Baylor game this year. The US Army Air National Guard flew these 3 Apache helicopters over the field prior to the game. The landed at the TSTC airfield and came to the game. Later the pilots were honored by the crowd with a rousing ovation.

At the same A&M vs. Baylor game there was a star sitting near me. I took his picture. This is Bill Young from the local CBS affiliate, KWTX-TV Channel 10. He seemed to try to keep a low profile. I was impressed with his sunglasses. Look at the D&G on the side. The letters appear to be Green and Gold, the Baylor colors.

I told my daughter, "He must have found those at Dollar General! See the DG on the side."

Julie said, "No Dad! Those are Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses!"

"Is that better than Dollar General?"

"Yes Dad! That's better than Dollar General!"

You learn something new everyday!

More Texas Flag Fun

I was going through some old pictures the other day. I came across some pictures I took in De Leon, TX in 2003. At that time we lived in De Leon and I worked for the school district. The district served as the fiscal agent for the Special Services Co-op that oversaw all special education functions for Deleon, Comanche, Gustine, and Rising Star ISD's. The main office for the co-op was in a storefront in downtown De Leon.

De Leon is a small town and the downtown merchants were always decorating their store front windows for various holidays and other local happenings. I was driving through town around the 4th of July and I noticed something a little off (no offense meant) at the Special Services Co-op.

Now, for those of you who do not know what "Special Services" are in the education world, we are talking about the services for students that meet Federal guidelines for additional educational services due to physical or educational needs.

So any way, I'm driving through town and this is what I see:

How about a closeup.

That's right. The Texas flag was painted upside down, on the Special Services office window. these are the people that we entrusted our children to. Notice though that the star is painted correctly. Only the red and white colors are switched.

In all fairness to the co-op, they did not do the painting. They hired the job out. But it was amazing that no one noticed it and got it corrected.

Here We Go Again!!

I was watching the American Idol Dallas auditions again last night with Julie. During the short piece on Kayla Hatfield something caught my eye. See if it catches yours. It happens approximately 11 seconds into the video.

That's right. The Texas flag is upside down on the windmill vane. Kayla is from Campbell, Texas so I imagine this is on their farm nearby.

Thanks AdelaideCate007 for the YouTube video. Visit her website Daytime Confidential.

Way To Go McDonald's

Some of you may remember my post from yesterday, Can You Believe This???. This is the post where I show the local McDonald's displaying the Texas flag above the American flag. I drove by today on my way home from work and the flags were flying high and proud in their proper positons.

Thank you McDonald's for your prompt action!

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS???

I snapped this picture on the way home today from work. It was approximately 5:00 PM. I suppose it had been this way most of the day.

This is in front of McDonald's # 27359. It is located at 7961 S IH 35 in Robinson, TX 76706. Who knows how many thousands have driven by and have seen this.

What do you think? Leave a comment.
