In My Humble Opinion.....

I like to check out The Drudge Report daily because it seems to do a great job of collecting some of the most important headlines of the day and the links to them. Sometimes it is great entertainment too.

I was looking at last night. I began to notice the tag lines of some of the news stories; such as BBC POLL: WORLD WANTS OBAMA..., Russians like Putin and Obama, polls find..., 80% in France..., etc.

A few facts about me. I'm not a political blogger. I do happen to prefer McCain/Palin, but I'm not going to campaign on the blog. But something struck me when I saw these headlines. Since I think of myself as an America first person and I read that "...the world wants Obama", "Russians like...Obama..., and "80% in France" prefer Obama; wellll......All of that just SCREAMS that we need McCain. After all, I would think if the Russians want Obama, there must be a problem. After all they wanted Georgia and it didn't seem like Mr. Obama was too concerned.

Just a thought on my part. I hope I didn't offend!

Easily Amazed As Well As Amused

I always like summertime. It seems that it is the time that I can catch up on things that take a lot of time to do. I decided that today would be an excellent day to wade through bookmarks and various on-line accounts. One thing led to another and ultimately I accomplished nothing. I started out at Ancestry.com and discovered that my niece, Kari, in Houston had been doing a lot of research on the family tree. I seem to remember that she had mentioned that she had been working on it; I just didn't realize how much research she has done.

Based on her research I found that she had followed my mother's side of the family all the way back to 1105 Burgh By Sand, Cumberland, England and 1115 Guisness, Picardy, France. I learned that there were also members of the family from Ireland. It is awesome to actually see the names of your ancestors from over 900 years ago.

From this, somehow, my search shifted to TV Dinners. Yes, TV Dinners. In my search I came across a really interesting web-site and blog. The website is linked at the bottom of the page in my "Easily Amused" section.

FIELD DAY-If You Plan It, They Will Come

Today is our annual Field Day at school. The theme of this years field day is The Olympics. All of our activities have an international flair. For example, we will have Ireland’s Potato Race, Greece’s Torch Relay Race, and China’s Dragon Race. Those activities sound pretty straightforward and actually make sense.

BUT,--------Is it just me? What is it with Portugal’s Popcorn Machine? I thought popcorn was given to the world by Native Americans, not Portugal. Perhaps it has to do with Chapter 5 of the report, "Savory Snacks in Portugal to 2010".

Then there's Italy’s Balloon Toss. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the French the first in the balloon category. I know the event is using latex balloons and not hot air balloons. But the first rubber balloons were made by Faraday for use in his experiments with hydrogen. There is more information on balloon history at Balloon HQ. I never saw a mention of Italy. Although I suppose they could have introduced the use of animal bladders and entrails as balloons in antiquity.

Finally, there's Australia’s Marble
Grab.
Australia has got some marbles. they haven't lost them yet. (Sorry! I couldn't resist.) Their marbles are actually named Devils Marbles and they are huge. I'm sorry but my babies aren't going to be able to grab them anytime soon. Check out these pictures of them at Australia Marbles.

Forecast for today is HOT and HUMID, high around 92. There was a slight chance of rain but now I think that has passed. Regardless of the weather, fun will be had by one and all. After all, we will be outside running and playing and getting wet tossing all of those Italian water balloons. Maybe they will be filled with Perrier water as a concession to the French who kindly gave the world the hot air balloon.
