BOGO Logos: B&W & Color

I was watching TV last night. It was hard to find anything to watch. This is what I found.

The last NBC logo is supposed to be "rare". I don't know why. it looks the same as the first NBC logo (#8 on the play list). I kind of miss the old logos. Especially the old NBC Peacock. I was really sad when they quite using the Peacock. You can watch the Peacock below.

I remember many of these, except the DuMont. DuMont was before my time or I was after their time.

Picture Monday, March 09, 2009; Notgeld #12

This weeks installment of Notgeld is from the community of Oppurg. It is very colorful and has some wonderful scenes. I kind of mixed up the order of Obverse and Reverse sides this week just to be different. After all, variety is the spice of life; unless it involves changing too many things in my life. And then it is disaster.

I like the bright pink note. Let me know which one you like. Also please check out my other posts which contain more pictures of Notgeld. You can find links in the sidebar.

Now I Know!

I always wondered what the cats did on Saturday nights when everyone was sleeping.

Since we had the time change to Daylight Saving Time I slept late this morning. When I got up I began looking for the cats. They were all scattered throughout the house; having been up to mischief no doubt.

I found Mr. Puss in the washroom.

He was looking in the washer. I wondered why, so I Looked a little closer.

That's when I began to see what he was looking at.

It appears that the cards from his wild poker game last night were in the wash. How the cards got in the wash is any one's guess. I didn't even know he played cards; let alone doing the wash.

Now that I know what he and the other cats do on their Saturday nights, I just wonder what happened to the "kitty".

I was going through my collection the other day and came across these notes. I wasn't exactly impressed with the notes themselves. They seem kind of plain. I wasn't sure where Finsterwalde was so I looked it up. It seems that it is on the Schackebach, a tributary of the Kleine Elster. I wonder if Shake 'n Bake comes from "Schackebach"?

My World, My Coins; My World Coins

I have recently rediscovered a stash of coins that my Grandfather Horst brought to America in the early 1920's when he and my grandmother emigrated. This assortment was passed on to my dad when my grandparents passed away in the 1950's. And then on to me when my dad died.

I remember playing with and sorting out these coins when I was very young. I am sure that these were my early days of developing my OC disorder. I would sit on the floor and sort according to size, composition (I was really sorting by color), numbers, etc. As I grew older I would sort by value, location, etc.

The bulk of the coins were from the Deutsches Reich with some Notgeld and Kleingeld issues from the post WWI era thrown in. There were also a few coins from surrounding European countries, though I never really paid much attention to them.

As time passed and I grew older the coins took a backseat to other passions and interests. After getting married I would occasionally take them out and look at them and reminisce. As my own children grew older I would share my stories of the coins with them. But then the coins would soon be put away and forgotten about for another long period.

Then I started posting and talking about my Notgeld collection. While searching the Notgeld I remembered the coins. I took them out and started poring over them once again. I was amazed at what I found. There were several silver coins mixed in with the assorted copper, bronze, aluminum, and steel coins. The following is a list of the more significant finds:

  • Russia 1900 50 Kopeks (Nicholas II)
  • Russia 1913 15 Kopeks (Nicholas II)
  • Sweden 1906 1 Krona
  • Deutsches Reich 1908 1/2 Mark
  • Deutsches Reich 1916 1/2 Mark
  • Canada 1911 25 cents
  • Australia 1943 6 Pence
  • 1950 Mexico 25 Centavos
I am not sure how the to latter coins got in the mix. I suppose they were probably found in daily change and pitched in somewhere down the line. None of the coins are in super shape; after all, they were part of everyday commerce until the fateful day that they fell into storage. Only seeing the light of day when i came along and decided to sort. Now they have been moved from the "stash" to the "Collection" since they have a silver content that makes them worth setting aside.

The following 2 websites were indispensable in researching these coins. Please visit them if you ever have the need.

The selection that I have for today is another set of notes from Erfurt. The first 2 notes are dated 28 October 1918. This is interesting to note, especially since World War I did not end until 11 November 1918. The armistice was not signed until 28 June 1919. The remaining 3 are dated 9 April 1920.
